Q: Where are you from?
A: I lived in multiple cities within Michigan, Virginia, and North Carolina. I would say Wilmington, NC, if I had to pick one, though. I've been here about nine years and went to school here.
Q: How did you choose this career path?
A: The truth is trial and error. I've had an unconventional path and have worked any job you can think of. I chose to major in communication studies, and from there, I found integrated marketing, which I instantly felt a sort of hand in glove moment. I consider myself a jack of all trades in the truest sense, and I liked that this career path really requires you to wear a lot of hats. I stay motivated when my work isn't stagnant, and I enjoy using both the creative and analytical parts of my brain.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: At the core of it all, I love problem-solving. I love the strategy and collaboration that goes into the role, but ultimately we are all working towards a collective goal of solving our client’s problems. It sounds cheesy, but it feels great forming a solid relationship with a client, proposing a solution, and then hearing their reaction when you can announce that you've delivered.
Q: What is your favorite part of being a member of the ZGM team?
A: I've never experienced this level of organization and structure while also keeping a laid back family environment. The best part is that it isn't BS. It's easy for me to tell the level of sincerity in people; they couldn't be more helpful and genuine.
Q: What is the strangest job you've ever had?
A: This one is hard, I'm 28, but I've had over 30 jobs in my life. I worked as a paddleboard/kayak guide on the Cape Fear River and had a couple of encounters with sharks and alligators. I've also been a bouncer, so I have some funny stories from doing that.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: Incredibly tough, even though my top five are probably all from John Wooden. I use two to apply to my personal and professional life. "Nothing will work unless you do" was always preached to me growing up as my dad was a huge fan of his coaching. For my personal life, I always liked John Wooden’s quote, "Talent is God-given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful."
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Not as of now. However, I'd like to think of all the dogs in the world as my pet.
Q: Name one thing on your bucket list.
A: Do the running of the bulls in Spain.
Q: Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
A: Writing music and basketball are two things I'm passionate about. Other than that, pretty much any excuse to be outside. Wilmington, NC, is a coastal town, so I spend a lot of time surfing, paddleboarding, and kayaking.
Q: What's your favorite food? Least favorite food?
A: My last meal would be a Five Guys burger. I'm not what you would call fancy. I genuinely don't dislike any food that I've ever tried, even bugs or other strange delicacies. I love traveling and trying new foods.
Q: Pick three words to describe yourself.
A: Genuine, Intense, Hard Working
Q: Favorite musician?
A: Neil Young
Q: If you were a Crayola Crayon, what would you be?
A: Blue, although I hated and always failed art class in elementary school.
Q: You're about to perform in a karaoke bar. What song do you pick?
A: Int'l Players Anthem by Outkast and UGK
Q: If you could live in a TV show, book, or movie, which one would you pick?
A: Star Wars, who doesn't want a lightsaber?
Q: If you could hang out with anyone for a day, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
A: Kobe Bryant. I've always found a ton of inspiration in him since I was a kid. He's a killer. His sickening intensity and willingness to outwork anyone is what I try to model all aspects of life after that requires discipline. I used him as an example of toughness when I coached basketball last year. I was unemployed for months when COVID-19 hit, and I would watch videos of him speaking to pump myself up 15 minutes before every interview, including every ZGM interview.
