Spring Cleaning Your Marketing Strategy – Design

Ahhh, yes. Spring is almost here.

After a long, cold winter, spring is the perfect time to open up the windows, let the fresh air in, and prepare for the warmer days ahead. In terms of your home, this can mean dusting off the windowsills, cleaning out closets, and putting away winter clothing and equipment. But housekeeping isn’t just for your home—there are several ways you can spring-clean your marketing strategy across all departments.

If you’re like most people, spring cleaning can be a minor annoyance where your kitchen cabinets and closets are concerned. However, when it comes to a marketing strategy, the daunting nature of this task becomes a whole different kind of animal. With this in mind, our Zero Gravity Marketing team has come up with a few spring-cleaning tips and tricks to help you declutter your marketing strategy, starting with design.

1.   Spice Up Your Social Media Presence

social media often acts as the face of your brand. Even if you have a separate social media department, it’s important to check in and make sure the design aspects of your accounts are on-brand and up-to-date.

Spring cleaning is a great time to plan an overhaul and refresh your social media profiles and advertisements. Make sure all of your profile images are relevant and consistent with your current branding. It’s also important to take a look at your advertisements and determine whether or not they need updating.

Before you move on with your tidy-up, scroll through your social feeds and try to view them from your audience’s perspective. Are your graphics outdated? Is your presence running bland? If so, it might be time to refresh your feeds with new branding or imagery.

2.   Update Your Logo

Logo redesign can be tricky because you want to stay true to the personality you’ve created for your brand while simultaneously keeping up with the times.

If your logo is feeling outdated or dull, it might be time to revisit the design with a fresh set of eyes. Companies of all sizes have to revamp their logos from time to time. Look at Slack, for example. This notable company recently rebranded its infamous hashtag logo into an image that’s more scalable and easier to use across multiple platforms, backgrounds, and interfaces.

Don’t be afraid to approach the idea of a new logo. Sometimes, a simple refresh can spring your company into the future in brand new ways.

3.   Refresh Your Branding on Digital and Marketing Collateral Pieces

A brand refresh doesn’t have to be all digital — in fact, it shouldn’t be. Your business cards and print collateral need to adhere to your brand’s consistency just as much as everything else.

If you’ve updated your website or logo recently, check in with your hardcopy collateral. Does it align with your brand’s new guidelines? If not, you probably need to refresh your marketing elements.

Speaking to the digital aspect, make sure your company’s email signatures are cohesive so you can bring your branding into your audience’s inboxes as well.

4.   See Your Website from a Visitor’s Perspective

Once a year, take the time to browse your company’s site in a non-biased way. You’re not so much looking for errors. Rather, you’re seeking ways you can improve things like the layout, navigation, and features everyday folks will appreciate when they happen upon your website.

Here are a few things to take note of:

  • First Impressions – When you first open up your website, take a mental note of your immediate thoughts from the perspective of a potential client. Is it aesthetically pleasing? Does it look professional? Is it in line with your current branding guidelines? If your answer is “no,” it might be time for an update.
  • Features – Do you wish there was an easier way to search for XYZ? Chances are, your audience does too. Implement relevant features that will create a better user experience.
  • Layout and Template – Have you found yourself confused about how to find a certain product or service you offer? It sounds like it’s time to update the navigation or layout of your site.
